Enjoy a massive month of music

As the summer hots up, so does the music. Auckland City’s free Music in Parks concert series continues throughout February with a calendar crammed full of entertainment for all musical tastes.

Four Historic Places and Spaces concerts take place throughout the month in some of Auckland’s most beautiful locations:

1. On 3 February, the Jubilation Choir perform a diverse programme of music at Dove-Myer Robinson Park, Parnell Rose Gardens from 2pm to 4pm.

2. One of the country’s top brass bands, the Trusts Waitakere Brass, take to the stage on 10 February in the Wintergardens, Auckland Domain. The band, who were 2003 Australasian Champions, will play some rousing tunes from 2pm to 4pm.

3. For an afternoon filled with music, head over to the Wintergardens, Auckland Domain on 17 February. The day’s programme includes leading Celtic instrumentalists Neumegen and Sanders and internationally acclaimed brass band Dalewood Auckland Brass.

4. February’s Historic Places and Spaces concerts finish off with the country sounds of Bourbon County Brothers at Albert Park Rotunda from 2pm to 4pm on 24 February. The event concludes with the heavenly sounds of Heaven Bent Gospel Choir.

If jazz is more your thing, pick from one of the Drake Jazz at the Rotunda concerts, every Sunday from 2pm to 4pm at the band rotunda in Auckland Domain.

- The concert on 4 February features top quality jazz from Murray Tanner, Sally Sadler and friends.

- Lewis McCallum and his band Thrive take to the stage on 11 February, mixing modern beats and electronics with creative jazz.

- Expect lyrical guitar and folk-tinged jazz from world class band – The Dan Sperber Complex playing on 18 February.

- The final jazz concert for the month sees Queen City Big Band performing jazz classics and swing music from the big band era. Duke Ellington and Glen Miller tunes will float through Auckland Domain on 25 February.

The Historic Places and Spaces concerts and Drake Jazz at the Rotunda sessions make up part of Auckland City’s Music in Parks series. The free concerts continue until March.

With 35 free Music in Parks concerts, there is plenty of music to keep you out and about all summer. So pack a picnic, grab some friends and enjoy summer sounds in one of the city’s beautiful parks. Check out www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/mips for a full list of events.
