One Love 2007: Jammin’
Line-up Announced
One Love 2007, the annual afternoon party in the sun for Wellington on Waitangi Day, has announced a stellar line-up of homegrown acts.
Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, One Love is the big event for the Capital City on February 6 (Bob Marley’s birthday), presenting a day-long festival of good music, chilled vibes and unity. 17,000 people attended last year’s event.
This year’s line-up includes performances from House of Shem, Olmecha Supreme, Adi Dick and Home Fire Burning with DJ support from Ras Twig, Topknot and Carlito.
In addition, One Love features a bar, arts & crafts, fashion and food stalls, and amusements for the kids. Organiser Dave Gibbons said One Love celebrates of unity, community and family.
“One
Love really underlines the spirit of Waitangi Day,” said
Mr Gibbons. “We leave the politics at the door and embrace
unity on not only a national level but also on global and
community levels.
“It’s a day for mums and dads and the little ones just as much as for people who want to dance as well as just hang out with their mates.
“Think of One Love as a giant picnic with 17,000 of your buddies,” he said. “Bring a hamper, a blanket to sit on and sunscreen and soak up the goodness.”
Other changes in the way the event would be operated were also announced.
“As this is an event for all, we all need to play a part in keeping it safe and enjoyable for everyone,” said Mr Gibbons. “This year we ask that there be no dogs, no patches, no BYO alcohol and glass, and no drugs.”
Entry for the event is $5, with a free 2007 Radio Active 89FM ‘Active Card’ included, entitling the owner to win competitions and discounts to many stores in Wellington. Free admission for under-14 year-olds.
