National Play Writing Competition – Entries

National Play Writing Competition – Call for Entries

Ever wanted to write a play but didn't know where to start? Have you written a great play but don't know what to do with it?

You're in luck! This year marks the second annual PlayRight National Writers’ Competition.

Presented by SmackBang Theatre Co., PlayRight is a competition for one-act plays, no longer than 30 minutes and written by playwrights from across Aotearoa. Entrants are free to write about any issue or topic that they choose, in the theatrical style that fits. In a nutshell, you write what you like. Nine plays will be chosen for a series of readings at the Herald Theatre, THE EDGE and, from there, a panel of judges consisting of well established theatre practitioners will select three plays to be fully produced and performed later in the year.

This competition is open to all writers - new or experienced, young or old, tall or short, whatever! So grab a pen, and get writing. This is an opportunity for kiwis to develop their voices or trial new ideas and forms of writing in a fun and low-risk environment.

For further information including hints and tips on how to write a one-act play visit www.smackbang.co.nz or www.myspace.com/smackbang.
