La Clique Sells Out at Sydney Festival and Tickets for Auckland Festival, AK07 Selling Fast

The Sydney Festival’s newest venue, The Famous Spiegeltent, has produced one of the Festival’s most successful performances, La Clique. La Clique has sold every ticket available for the duration of the Sydney Festival’s three-week season. The show has been described as the ‘hit of the festival’ and the ‘talk of the town’.

“We’re overwhelmed by Sydney’s reaction,” said David Bates, owner of The Famous Spiegeltent and creator of La Clique. “We expected the show would appeal to Sydney-siders, but we certainly didn’t expect the standing ovations we’ve received since opening night and the queues around the block at 2am for the 25 last-minute standing room tickets released at 8am every day. It’s great to have yet another city under the spell of The Famous Spiegeltent.”

The Famous Speigeltent and La Clique are coming to Auckland as part of the Auckland Festival, AK07, 9-25 March, and tickets are racing out the door, says Festival Director David Malacari.

“It seems the reputation of the Famous Spiegeltent, which has been delighting festival-goers all over the world for decades, and La Clique, are well known to Aucklanders because tickets are in hot demand.”

This is the first time the Famous Speigeltent has been part of the Auckland Festival, and the first time La Clique has been to New Zealand.

A theatrical phenomenon, a unique and inspirational night of live entertainment - La Clique has performed both within and without The Famous Spiegeltent in Edinburgh, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Brighton (UK), Montreal and New York. Created by Spiegeltent Productions, La Clique is an inspired melange of cabaret, new burlesque, circus and contemporary vaudeville, including unique performances by Amy Saunders aka Miss Behave who holds the world record for sword swallowing. This is guaranteed to be the sexiest, funniest, wettest and wildest show you will ever see! It celebrates the risk, danger, sensuality and pure unadulterated pleasure that a night at the circus, the cabaret, or the burlesque theatre should be.

‘This is Cirque du Soleil’s younger sister…more brash, less inhibited and more naked! Far raunchier, funnier, more intimate than its better known forerunner. Truly mesmerising!”
New York Times

The Famous Spiegeltent and the AK07 Festival Club will be housed at Red Square – a multi venue indoor-outdoor playground for adults found at downtown’s Britomart precinct. Red Square will be the Festival hub for the duration of the Auckland Festival, AK07 with an outdoor garden bar & café, an outdoor stage and live music every night.

The stellar line-up for the Famous Spiegeltent and the AK07 Festival Club includes some of the country’s finest musicians including Don McGlashan, Annie Crummer, Nathan Haines, Whirimako Black and many more and a handful of stunning international performers, such as Eddie Perfect and the Spaghetti Western Orchestra who are unlikely to be seen outside a Festival programme.

Group allocation has almost sold out and a limited amount of additional Premium Booths have been released. Contact Capital Events for exclusive hosted nights during the season while tickets are available www.capitalevents.co.nz

The full programme for Red Square will be announced on 1 February

More Red Sqaure @ Britomart artist reviews:

Eddie Perfect – Drink Pepsi Bitch

'Not only was he hilarious, his targets were diverse enough to potentially offend every member of the audience, every race, creed and religion. His obscene lyrics, containing violent fantasies and middle-class self-hatred, reveal a disillusioned and troubled young man. For our sake, let's hope that never changes.'
★ ★ ★ ★ Fest

This angry Australian's sense of humour is so caustic it could strip paint off railings, and his material makes you wince almost as often as it makes you laugh.. Perfect's singing voice is a thing of raw beauty, his lyrics are shrapnel sharp, and his ability to conjure up a cast of richly textured characters... is deeply impressive.'

The Spaghetti Western Orchestra

'an hour of pure performance – music, drama and comedy ... musicianship and arrangements of the highest order'
★ ★ ★ ★ The List, Edinburgh

'Besides a thoroughgoing exploitation of spaghetti westerns' potential for kitsch and irony, also at work in the mix is an affectionate homage to the form, which lends it much of its focus while helping fuel its darker, David Lynch-like aspects. There's also a generous dollop of gleeful silliness, as with a superbly manic send-up of avant-garde contemporary music - just one of umpteen cherishable highlights in an inspired show.' ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Scotsman, 22nd August 2006

'While the onus is on laughs as each wrangles with his arsenal of instruments and props, the musical accomplishment and sheer power of performance should not be underplayed - their rousing retelling of cinema's first true, gritty aural landscape would be show enough for your money, that you are gifted daft hilarity into the bargain makes this another winning adventure to saddle up for.'
