Open Season: An IMAX 3D Experience Begins on 11 January, 2007
First Sony Pictures Film to be Converted into IMAX 3D
IMAX Theatre, Queen St, – Audiences will be in for a wild IMAX® 3D adventure through the wilderness as Columbia Pictures’ animated family adventure Open Season debuts at IMAX Theatre, Queen St, on 11 January 2007. The film will be released in IMAX 3D simultaneously with the motion picture's premiere in conventional theaters. Open Season has been digitally converted into IMAX 3D and re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® through IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology.
Open Season: An IMAX 3D Experience marks the second IMAX DMR release for Sony Pictures Entertainment, following the studio's 2004 release Spider-Man® 2: The IMAX Experience. The large 15/70 film frame and spectacular IMAX 3D effects will provide moviegoers with a completely immersive cinematic experience—ducking as acorns fly overhead and feeling the roller-coaster-like thrill of going over waterfalls.
"The amazing immersive quality of IMAX 3D will give moviegoers an opportunity to experience OPEN SEASON, the first full-length animated motion picture from Sony Pictures Animation, in a very special way," said Rory Bruer, President of Domestic Distribution Releasing.
Columbia Pictures presents Sony Pictures Animation's first full-length feature film, the animated action-adventure comedy Open Season, in which Boog (Martin Lawrence), a grizzly bear with no survival skills, has his perfect world turned upside-down when he meets Elliot (Ashton Kutcher), a scrawny, fast-talking wild mule deer. When Elliot convinces Boog to desert his idyllic existence living in a garage decked out with all the comforts of home, and try the "wild" life, things quickly spiral out of control. With open season upon them, Elliot must help Boog get in touch with his inner grizzly to unite the woodland creatures and take the forest back!
Open Season is based on the humor of cartoonist Steve Moore (“In the Bleachers”) who, along with John Carls, serves as executive producer. The film is directed by Roger Allers (director of The Lion King) and Jill Culton (Monsters, Inc. and Toy Story 2) and co-directed by Anthony Stacchi (Antz). The producer is Michelle Murdocca (Stuart Little and Stuart Little 2). Legendary singer-songwriter Paul Westerberg is creating original songs and, with Ramin Djawadi, the score. The CG animation is by Sony Pictures Imageworks.
Sony Pictures Releasing will be the exclusive distributor of Open Season to IMAX theaters worldwide.
