Wanted: Six Thousand Viewers in 48 Hours!

Maori Television needs just 6,000 new viewers before December 1 to score the station’s highest-ever ratings.

So the karanga has gone out to Aotearoa - tune in and watch from now until midnight on November 30, and help Maori Television reach a new record!

October 2006 was the best ratings to date for the channel, with a monthly cumulative audience of 580,200 unique viewers, thanks to the free-to-air Tri-Nations league games.

Last month beat April’s previous high of 577,000, which was boosted by the hugely successful ANZAC Day broadcast.

November has seen the grand final of the Tri-Nations series between New Zealand and Australia, the 2006 Maori Sports Awards plus other highlights, leading to a current total of 574,900 unique viewers.

Just 6,000 more in the final two days of this month will make November the best so far – and set a new goal for Maori Television to strive towards.

Maori Television chief executive Jim Mather said it was a privilege to be part of Maori Television’s continued development and to see such good results and consistent growth so early in its lifetime.

“Although it would be good to have another record in November, the fact Maori Television continues to hold and make gains in its viewer numbers shows its true potential as a provider of quality public television that promotes understanding between Maori and all other New Zealanders.”
