Audition Shout Out for New Vodafone Warriors Cheer Squad
The search is on to find the brand new Vodafone Cheerleaders squad to support the Vodafone Warriors in the 2007 season
with auditions taking place in just over two weeks’ time.
Vodafone Cheerleaders manager Rachel Holley says that judges will be looking for the whole package including attributes
like energy, enthusiasm, dance ability and personality.
“Girls who want the opportunity to be part of a “new school” Cheerleading squad should definitely apply,”says Rachel.
The Vodafone Warriors were without a cheerleading team in 2006 and Vodafone Warriors Captain Steve Price says they are
looking forward to the extra buzz the Vodafone Cheerleaders will create when they run out onto the field at Mt Smart.
“We were the only team in the 2006 NRL not to have a cheerleading squad so it’s an exciting development as we look
forward to the 2007 NRL season. They’ll add a whole new dimension to our home games,” says Steve.
Sue McGregor, Head of Sponsorship at Vodafone, says Vodafone’s support of the Vodafone Cheerleaders is a natural
progression from the launch of Vodafone One Tribe earlier this year.
“Vodafone One Tribe gives fans a vehicle to show their support for the team all year. We’re pleased to be able to create
a new Cheerleading squad for the Vodafone Warriors in order to help more people get behind the team. This squad is going
to knock the pom pom socks off cheerleading teams of old.
“As a nation, the louder we can support the Vodafone Warriors the better! Particularly as they are New Zealand’s only
team in the NRL competition,” says Sue.
Those chosen for the team, and anyone taking part in the auditions, will get to star in a six part reality television
show called ‘The Cheerleaders’. The show launch will coincide with the Vodafone Warriors’ season debut on March 17 when
they take on the Parramatta Eels at Mt Smart Stadium.
Rachel Holley says she expects there to be a high level of interest in the auditions with shows like ‘Dancing with the
Stars’ and ‘So you think you can dance’ having helped a marked increase in New Zealand’s love of dancing.
“It’s not just happening in our country, there’s a global phenomenon which means more and more people are choosing to
express themselves through dance.”
The Vodafone Cheerleaders will be unveiled to the public for the first time next year at the Vodafone Warriors’
Community Carnival from 13-18 February.
Auditions will take place on Saturday December 16 and Sunday December 17 from 10.00am at Vodafone’s office at 20 Viaduct
