Al Jazeera Programmes - Triumph For Triangle TV
Al Jazeera Programmes Mark Triumph For Triangle Television
Programmes from AL JAZEERA ENGLISH – the recently-launched English-language news and current affairs channel from the controversial Middle-Eastern-based Al Jazeera Network – will screen live on Triangle Television from this Saturday [November 25].
It is the first time a New Zealand broadcaster has screened programmes from Al Jazeera's new channel.
The first of Al Jazeera's programmes to screen on Triangle is "FROST OVER THE WORLD", a one-hour current affairs programme hosted by celebrated British broadcaster David Frost.
Screening live on Triangle Television's Auckland and Wellington stations every Saturday at 6pm from November 25, the widely-publicised show sees Frost interviewing the world's news makers with his trademark incisive style, and examining the decisions and policies that shape today's global politics. He initiate's a 'global conversation' among his guests, who will include key people from politics, current affairs, the arts and sport. The first guest on Frost's programme was Britain's Prime Minister, Tony Blair.
Triangle Television's Chief Executive Officer, Jim Blackman, says the agreement the station has negotiated with Al Jazeera provides Auckland and Wellington viewers access to a broader view of world politics than is currently available on mainstream television in New Zealand.
"We are delighted to be the first to provide New Zealand viewers access to Al Jazeera's new English-language channel. Its news and current affairs programmes offer a Middle Eastern perspective on world events and, quality-wise, are on a par with those from other major international news services that we screen, such as Deutsche Welle and the BBC."
A rework of Triangle's programme schedules for both cities is currently underway so that a variety of other Al Jazeera programmes can be added over the next week or two to the station's already impressive line-up of international news shows.
The initial line-up – all broadcast live - will include Al Jazeera's daily discussion programme "Inside Story", documentary special "Witness"; current affairs programme "Inside Iraq"; interactive news programme "Riz Khan"; and feature programme "48". All are in English and will be screened live.
Al Jazeera English, launched earlier this month, is the world's first English-language news channel with headquarters in the Middle East. It has broadcast centres in Doha, Kuala Lumpur, London and Washington DC.
