Emos Bring Marker Pens to Big Day Out
Rivers of mascara will be running down teenage cheeks around the country at the joyous news that My Chemical Romance will bring their black marker pens with them to the Auckland Big Day Out.
That’s right – Sounds and the Big Day Out are pleased to announce that the American chart-toppers are to do a session at the Sounds Signing Tent at Mt Smart stadium on 19 January 2007.
My Chemical Romance’s new album The Black Parade sat in the number one spot on the NZ album charts for over three weeks and Big Day Out promoters are pointing to the band as one of the prime drivers behind surging early ticket sales for the summer music festival.
“They are the hottest band of the myspace generation. They have an ardent fanbase and we’re currently enjoying even faster sales than the monster Metallica year at the Big Day Out,” said spokesperson Paul Mckessar.
Regular BDO mouthpiece, promoter Campbell Smith, was unavailable for comment. It is understood he was already out on a mission finding emos and encouraging them to get down to Sounds to get a signing card.
“Campbell is very concerned about the emos,” explained McKessar. “ He knows that they are sensitive poetic souls and does not want any of them to miss out on getting a card from Sounds for the My Chemical Romance signing.”
The Sounds Signing Tent is a popular feature of every Big Day Out. More acts will be announced for the 2007 tent in coming weeks.
