Kids’ favourites to lead city’s Santa parade
Lucy Lawless, Dean Barker, the Tall Blacks and the Silver Ferns have all gone before them.
Now in 2006, the Grand Marshals of the Farmers Santa Parade are… drum roll…Matt, Dayna and Jordan from Studio 2. The
popular presenters of the TV2 children’s show will be at the forefront of the parade on November 26.
Farmers Santa Parade organiser Pam Glaser says each year Grand Marshals are chosen for their high profile locally or
internationally or from people who have made a significant contribution to the community.
“Matt and Dayna have been with Studio 2 since its launch in 2004 and Jordan joined the team this year and they are well
loved by Kiwi kids everywhere.
“All three have a passion for making great kids TV and they love what they do so we feel they are perfect to lead the
parade and that the public would love to honour them in this way.”
Ms Glaser says the Grand Marshal concept was introduced to the parade in 1997. The Grand Marshals lead the parade in an
open-top vehicle.
Bigger & better parade promised
The Farmers Santa Parade is always full of pleasant surprises and this year will be no different with a great array of
new and exciting floats and some of Kiwi kids’ favourite celebrity characters.
There is a grand line-up of exciting hot new floats including Snakes and Ladders, Fantasy Garden, By the Seaside, Happy
Feet and the Enchanted River Boat.
And characters making their presence felt include new entries Postman Pat and Strawberry Shortcake as well as previous
favourites Bob the Builder, SpongeBob SquarePants, Scooby Doo and more.
“There are characters galore to entertain all ages,” says Pam Glaser. “It really is a fantastic line-up of the kids’
favourite characters and celebrities.”
The Farmers Santa Parade begins at 2pm on November 26 (rain date: December 3) at the corner of Cook Street and Mayoral
Drive and heads into Mayoral Drive, down Queen Street, left into Customs Street and then up Albert Street to the corner
of Wellesley Street.
Organisers are expecting 250,000 people to line the city’s streets with many expected to attend the free after party in
Aotea Square.
