Fun Summer Months Ahead for MOTAT

What do toys, trams and Santa have in common?

They can all be found at MOTAT from November to January.

* Toys: Science at Play
The latest exhibition at MOTAT Toys: Science at Play opens up a world of discovery of the science that makes toys work. The newest interactive offering at MOTAT allows children to get their hands on 40 engaging exhibitions, including robots, dolls, pinball, kaleidoscopes and more. The exhibition is aimed at five to 12 year olds and will fascinate both children and adults alike.

Dates
Toys: Science at Play is open 10am to 5pm (final entry at 4.30pm) until January 31 2007. It can be visited seven days a week all year round except Christmas Day.

MOTAT main entrance, Great North Road, Western Springs, Auckland.

Costs
You can enter Toys: Science at Play as part of your MOTAT entry fee. You can also enjoy the rest of the museum, free tram rides and entry to the tactile dome for the one great price.

* Orewa New World Beach Santa Parade November 18
The magic of Christmas starts with the Orewa New World Beach Santa Parade, one of the largest community Santa Parades in the Rodney District. Keep a look out for some of MOTAT’s vehicle collection taking part in this festive event.

The parade starts at 2.00pm from Florence Ave, Centreway Rd, Moana Ave, Bakehouse Lane, Tamariki Ave and finishing at Tamaraki and Centreway Rd intersection. There is no rain check day - the parade will go ahead rain or shine. A Christmas party follows with entertainment, dancing and various performances in Bakehouse Lane. The car park opposite the Mad Butcher will feature a Hot Rod car display and items from MOTAT’s vehicle collection.

* Christmas giving at MOTAT during December

A longstanding tradition where MOTAT encourages visitors to give something back. There’s free entry to MOTAT in exchange for donating a gift to charity. During December bring the kids and come and see MOTAT’s beautifully decorated tree, buildings and lights with activities for the whole family.

* Auckland Tram Anniversary December 31
It’s 50 years since trams stopped operating through Auckland but they can still be seen every day at MOTAT, Auckland's only operating tramway and only one of four in New Zealand. To mark the occasion there’ll be free tram rides and tours of the tram restoration workshops. Three historic trams will operate throughout the day including the first tram put into service in 1902.

The tram service runs every 20 minutes from MOTAT's Great North Road site, past Western Springs Park to the Auckland Zoo and return, 1.1km each way.

Hours of operation:
Weekends & Public Holidays 10.00am - 4.40pm
Weekdays 10.00am - 4.00pm
School Holidays 10.am - 4.30 pm
The Tram service is closed Christmas Day and Pacifica Festival weekend in March.

Tram Fares:
MOTAT admission includes a return tram ride.

Off the street tram fares (free of charge on December 31):
Family pass $5
Adult return $2 Adult one way $1
Child return $1 Child one way 50 cents
Under 5 years are free

* January 2007 School Holiday Programme

Come to MOTAT in the January School Holidays and ‘Play’all day long. Linked to the temporary exhibit Toys: Science at Play, the programme allows school holiday visitors to explore, make believe, problem solve and play together. Come and take part in creative crafts, group games, puzzle solving and interactive drama from December 30 2006 – February 6 2007 10am – 4pm.
