Powerball Luck Strikes Twice In October

For the second time this month, a lucky player has scooped the Lotto Powerball top prize, winning $2 million in tonight's draw on a ticket purchased at Waiuku Paper Plus in Auckland, says NZ Lotteries Chief Executive Todd McLeay.

The owner of the ticket will collect a total prize of $2 million, with $1.7 million from winning Powerball First Division and $333,333 from also winning Lotto First Division.

"To have another Powerball winner so soon after our big Nelson winner is fantastic, it's great to see Kiwis winning NZ Lotteries' biggest game.

"Powerball is excitingly unpredictable. You never know when it is going to be won," said Mr McLeay.

Two weeks ago, a huge $6.9 million Powerball prize was sold at the Milton Street Store in Nelson.

"We urge this week's winner to get in touch with us as soon as possible by calling (04) 802 7000. We look forward to talking to them."

Two other Lotto tickets, purchased at United South City in Hamilton and Browns Bay Toyworld in Auckland have each won Lotto First Division, winning $333,333 each.

And to complete the scoop of all top prizes being won, Lotto Strike has also been struck by a ticket sold at New World Ngaruawahia, winning $115, 864.

Tonight's other big winner was Brian Taylor, an accountant from Hamilton, who spun and won $50,000 live on Lotto's Winning Wheel. Mr Taylor and his wife, Roz, immigrated to New Zealand two years ago and say they love every minute here, with spinning the Winning Wheel the icing on the cake.

Tonight's Winning Wheel ticket was sold by Belfast New World in Christchurch. The serial number is 424-29188614-20XX.
