Hip hop and breaking crew round off a mega night of Maori music
Wellington will be rocking to the beat of Māori music at the Opera House on 17 November 2006 when the annual Māori Music showcase Pao Pao Pao hits the nation’s capital.
High flying hip hop act 4 Corners whose last two singles “On the downlow” and “By my side” have featured on the NZ top 40 and hip hop dance powerhouse, Legacy Dance Crew – finalists in the World Hip Hop Dance Champs complete an impressive line-up including Hinewehi Mohi of Oceania, and APRA Awards winners Ruia Aperahama and Whirimako Black.
National Māori Music Summit Project Manager, Ngahiwi Apanui says, “the Pao Pao Pao concert is a once a year opportunity to hear and see the cream of Maori music and dance in all its guises. You won’t see such a diversity of artists performing side by side everyday. The acts range from traditional instrumentalists, Riki Bennett and Rewi Spraggon to world music legends Wai to the powerful kaupapa based hip hop of 4 Corners – it’s a show like no other.”
