Jewish Mystic To Speak in New Zealand
Reb Zalman Shachter Shalomi, one of the most creative and influential Jewish thinkers of our time will be giving a short public lecture tour in New Zealand. A radical visionary and peace activist, environmentalist, and pioneer of interfaith dialog, Reb Zalman, 81, has studied with leaders of many faith traditions - Sufi masters, Native American elders, Catholic monks, and even the Dalai Lama.
"I believe that every religion is like a vital organ of the planet," says Reb Zalman. "I feel that in order to bring about peace and harmony in the world, we need to get adept at working in concert together, to work in ensemble together in order to create conditions on the higher level so that we don't have such a clash of cultures and a clash of attitudes with each other that brings on such calamities."
Reb Zalman will be running an informal study session at Wellington's Temple Sinai on Hasidic songs and stories on Saturday Afternoon 28 October at 5.30 pm, and will be giving a public lecture at Bayfield School Hall in Auckland on Sunday 19 November at 3pm on the challenges that face the world's religions in a time of planetary crisis.
