Winners of the Smokefree Pacifica Beats Nationals
Winners of the 2006 Smokefree Pacifica Beats National Final:
The Jick
Hailing from Kawerau College in the Waikato and contending with some of the most talented competition ever seen on a Smokefree Pacifica Beats stage, The Jick used their own unique blend of soulful female harmonies and driving musical rhythms to convince the panel of expert judges that they were worthy of taking home the title.
The Jick are an eight piece band with four female vocalists and came to be in the national final after winning the Waikato regional final two months ago.
As well as winning two and a half thousand dollars cash, The Jick also now head into a professional studio to record their two winning songs with the bands first single being taken to radio prior to Christmas this year.
The final took place at a packed Regent Theatre, St James in Auckland on Saturday night.
Eight finalists from around the country delivered a series of premium performances that once again showed the stunning depth of talent in the Urban/Te Reo/Pacifica genre flowing from the countries high schools and colleges.
As well as performances from all of the regional finalists, the crowd was entertained between acts by last year’s winners Az One, the king of Aotearoa Hip-Hop Che Fu, and topped off with a knockout finale from Auckland's Spacifix.
