Welcome to another month’s worth of news from the Western Isle. The chart action belongs almost entirely to Evermore this month, but there’s plenty of other Kiwi bizness doing the rounds. If I may…

Tyree’s doing well off the back of his appearance (in NZ and Australia) on the remix of Chamillionaire’s 'Ridin’. The track peaked at 28 on the charts in September and has been picked up last month by The Hot Hits and Take 40 Australia (things that generally happen when you’re a Top 40 single). Tyree’s own album Now Or Never was released last month, and the 'Ladies and Gentlemen' single is due for a release October 7th.

Fat Freddy’s Drop are picking up a bunch of plays around Australia. 'Wandering Eye' is 4th most reported on the Alternative radio chart (better buy some flannel shirts fellas), and Triple J has been spot playing several other Fat cuts.

Making the Hit Picks in Aussie industry bible The Music Network with his new single 'Couldn't Be Done' was Tim Finn. Pleasingly they conceded his nationality is actually Kiwi, while describing the track as “an upbeat, acoustic treat that heralds the well known pop sensibilities of the 60s”. The track was picked up in radio-land by DMX and Stellar Interact while the clip is airing on Rage and VH1. Finn’s new album Imaginary Kingdom is released in Australia October 14th, and he’ll play a heap of shows from then through November.

While flicking through The Music Network we also noticed that Shihad made the Look at Me pages, pictured with Sire Records founder, Seymour Stein, as they renewed their recording contract with Warner Music.

You’ve been living under a rock as opposed to living under Rock if you didn’t know The Datsuns are gearing up to unleash album number three on the world. The Em Effers from Hell drop their Smoke And Mirrors album October 7th, and first single 'System Overload' is getting plenty of play on Triple J and screening on Rage. I suppose both broadcasters will be hoping the track doesn’t live up to its title.

Goodnight Nurse were iTunes Artist of the Week in September. Their Always & Never album also hit stores last month.

Another September album release was The Veils’ Nux Vomica. Their clip for 'Advice For Young Mothers To Be' is airing on Rage.

Scribe and The Black Seeds are playing the Southbound Festival in West Australia in January. The lineup also includes the likes of Modest Mouse, Wolfmother and Michael Franti & Spearhead.

Blindspott’s track 'Drown' has been picked up by Satellite, and the metallers supported Karnivool on a couple of September dates.

Evermore released the second single from their Real Life album to radio and TV. Light Surrounding You was the #1 Most Added track to radio, and as you expect this meant it turned up on radio playlists all over the country. The accompanying vid similarly barged its way onto screens everywhere. Previous single Running is still doing the business, the most played track by an 'Australian' artist one week in September, and still figuring on Top 10 download charts. Currently on tour, Evermore are to headline Coca-Cola’s Live’n’Local Tour which also features The Veronicas, End Of Fashion, After The Fall, and The Hot Lies in a five hour arena show across five cities. The tour commence October 25 and wraps up November 5th. You can also make New Year’s Eve special by spending it with Evermore at the Pyramid Rock Festival.

The Dirty South remix of Evermore’s 'It’s Too Late' appears on the ARIA Awards' Best Dance Release nominees list – Dirty South unsurprisingly including it on their eponymous EP. The track is also nominated for Best Single in this year’s Dance Music Awards. And, since we don’t think that’s enough Evermore for this month here’s a bit more info on that Dirty South remix, even though this might not be NZ Music In Oz exactly – the track has reached #9 on the US Billboard Dance Airplay chart and was the Most Added single to dance radio. It’s also been labelled an Essential New Tune on Pete Tong's BBC radio show.

And finally, Aussie music chain JB Hi Fi, which apparently makes up around one fifth of their retail market, will be opening it’s first NZ store by March, according to Billboard Magazine – they told the mag that they may acquire another NZ chain.
