The regional community radio station for the top for the South, Fresh FM, marks fifteen years on air today with the
launch of its streaming service.
Moscow to Murchison, Fresh FM is now available to listeners through the web at www.freshfm.net
"The roll out of this new aspect to Fresh FM broadens its capabilities in a number of ways: as a community access
broadcaster serving remote communities; its role in ongoing education and as a publisher of our regional stories," said
John Bullock, Fresh FM Station Manager.
"Today at a special function the top of the South Mayors along with regional representatives from community, business,
and education sectors will be joined by programme makers and members to mark the successful completion of a three year
turn around project.
"All that has been accomplished would not have been possible without our dedicated staff; past and present, Programme
Director Jo Ann Firestone; Production Engineer Matt Budd and Tasman Golden Bay Programmes Producer Patrick Steer and the
Tasman Broadcasting Trustees," said Mr Bullock.
The station is now broadcasting across the top of the South; has a leading role in the Inforegion concept; has a diverse
and substantial community driven programming line-up and manages the Fresh FM New Zealand Radio Drama Competition.
Its partnerships with New Zealand On Air, Ngati Koata and the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology have resulted
in increased community programming, four hours of Te Reo broadcast everyday and work on the development of educational
programmes.
Fresh FM in 2007 is planning to introduce a live programme stream from the top of the South schools using the Loop and
is also a partner in the "Seeing Sound" initiative which is running inside the Victory Urban Village Project.
Other initiatives include the soon to be switched on new and improved frequency for Golden Bay and an expanded online
audio archive service which currently features local documentaries, radio drama and lectures.
Fresh FM is on air across Tasman Golden Bay on 99.4FM, Marlborough 89.2FM, Nelson City 95.4FM and soon with increased
coverage in Golden Bay on 95.2 and streaming on the web at www.freshfm.net
