Feature: VSSP/Vamp/Luxe At Air NZ Fashion Week

These labels celebrated their Kiwi icon status with a completely homegrown soundtrack and a couple of real kiwi gals on the catwalk - Hilary Timmins & Jayne Kiely. Both looked stunning, were completely relaxed and set the tone for a show to enjoy. VSSP and Vamp are known for relaxed, easy to wear pieces that take elements of high fashion and reinterpret them for real women, while Luxe is their high end glamour range.

Wearing a palette of mainly black, grey, white and red the first models sashayed down the catwalk with shorts cut to sit just below the knee, cropped navy blue military style jackets complete with heart tattoo motifs on the back, fuller skirts and high waisted tailored pants with both slim and wider legs.

Embellished hip length wool jackets and cute shrugs added a funky touch to otherwise simple T tops and even a long-line grey jersey hoodie dress in made an appearance. Denim was classic blue on its own or mixed with shots of tartan, while tones of olive and brown denim embossed with a black floral print also made a statement.

The muted tones continued with a pair of mustard suede cropped pants and the same suede was a feature in fitted classic style shirts, both of which were teamed with simple high waisted black trousers or easy tops. A soft duck egg blue mesh fabric was worked into a floaty layered skirt and relaxed layered tops.

VAMP mixed it all up a little with textures, pleating and hard edged buckles. Plaid mixed with suede in a clever pleated skirt, jackets had draped collars and relaxed fits, while tunics teamed with pants made this one of the most accessible collections on the runway.

Gorgeous jersey dresses in jewel shades of red, teal, turquoise and black with lengths from mini to maxi proved that simple things done well always triumph, and the shift was interpreted with a low crossover drape in the front. Dresses made a real impact in this collection - be it the soft cream coatdress or the fitted tubes with sleeve cutouts, belt detail or Y shaped necklines. This is a label that knows what women love to wear.

The Luxe part of the show was largely overshadowed by the appearance of Jordan Luck live on the catwalk belting out “Why does love do this to me?” – an absolute crowd pleaser and one of those special Fashion Week moments. We did however get a glimpse of beaded and layered lace dresses, metallic skirts and opera coats.
