We have a new World Champion and a new World Record!
Hailing from the West Coast, Campbell Crochley zoomed his way to victory on the 100m polythene Zoom Slide set up this morning on Hagley Park, Christchurch. Campbell’s Zoom slide attempt in the final shootout measured 46.4 metres.
Utilising the slippery Zoom slide and eco-friendly detergent for speed, Campbell beat his brother David (last year’s World Champ) to become the reigning champ for 2006.
Over 50 contestants participated in The Rock World Zoom Slide champs braving the frost in an alarming combination of lycra, full body beige sprint suits, stubbies, Speedos, bike pants – and undies for those who decided to participate on the spot.
The event even attracted an Aucklander – and a special mention to the three Finnigan brothers from Kaiapoi who biked for 3 hours to make the event.
The Rock’s Morning Rumble – Roger Farrelly and Simon Doull –
hosted the event, broadcasting live from Hagley Park.
Prizes were awarded for distance, flair and costumes (among other things).
