Call for Entries Manukau’s Vessel and Sculpture Awards
The New Zealand arts community is invited to submit entries in the 2006 Manukau Vessel and Sculpture Awards.
The awards run by Manukau City Council are in their ninth year and have continued to grow in stature.
Organiser of the event Chantelle Whaiapu says:
“The Vessel and Sculpture Awards keep getting better every year. This event, which attracts entries from throughout the country, raises the profile of arts in Manukau as well as adding to the vibrancy of the city.”
The premier award carries a prize of $2500, second place $1000, third $750 and merit awards of $750 will be handed out at the selector’s discretion.
This year’s guest selector is acclaimed Tongan/New Zealand artist and tutor Filipe Tohi.
Filipe is a well-known sculptor of wood, stone and steel. His current work explores the patterns and history of lalava - Pacific traditional cord lashings.
Entries must be submitted by Thursday 26 October. The award ceremony takes place on 3 November. An exhibition of selected work will follow at Nathan Homestead from 3 to 28 November.
