#6 Evermore – Running

Evermore capitalised on the immense amount of interest generated by their single ‘Running’ with their sophomore album Real Life debuting at number five in the album chart and gaining gold status in just its first week of release. The album sat at number 8 at the month’s end, while ‘Running’ was at 12 on the singles chart. ‘Running’ also figured heavily at radio, charting in the top ten airplay for the latter half of July, topping the CHR chart, reaching 7 on the contemporary rock chart, and the track featured on all digital charts we looked at throughout the month. Evermore’s debut album Dreams also got in on the act, starting the month at 45 on the album chart and sitting in the sixties from then on.

Another brother-oriented act the Aussies regularly claim as their own, Split Enz continued to enjoy album chart success following their reunion tour. Spellbound, their greatest hits compilation, spent the first two weeks of July in the Top 20 before settling back to the 40s. And not content with that, She Will Have Her Way (a collection of covers of songs by Tim and Neil Finn) re-entered the album chart at 35, and climbed into the high 20s. Got time for one more? OK, how about Crowded House’s Dreaming – The Videos sitting comfortably in the top ten music DVDs for the month…

As Sweet As Sin, the debut album from punksters The Bleeders was released, with the ‘Nightmares’ clip added to Rage, and the band on tour in support of Aussies Gyroscope.

Also picking up a good support slot was Che Fu, on the bill for Matisyahu’s Australian dates as well as releasing his third album Beneath The Radar during July.

Savage ft Aaradhna’s ‘They Don’t Know’ clip proved to have some legs left, being added to SBA, while the single was still hanging around on the chart at the month’s end.

The soundtrack to the hit Kiwi flick Sione’s Wedding was released, with the clip for ‘I Do Believe’ added to Club . No word yet as to how many pirates will be arrested in Australia for ripping the movie off…

Move The Crowd Records (beat)juggled a couple of projects this month. Juse ft Smashproof’s ‘Ride Til I Die’ single was released, along with Juse’s Global Casino album. The clip for ‘Ride Til I Die’ was added to SBA, while the track ‘Falling’ was picked up at radio by Raw. Fellow MTC act Tyree’s ‘Ladies & Gentlemen’ was also playlisted by Raw as well as DMX Music, while the accompanying clip was added to Rage and So Fresh TV.

Newcomers Shaky Hands had their track ‘You & I’ picked up by Triple J, and released their debut EP Cut Off Your Hands at the end of July.

And rounding things off for July, Shapeshifter played shows in Melbourne and Sydney towards the end of the month.
