Vegetarian Film Festival Website Launch

Meat Free Media and the New Zealand Vegetarian Society

Media Release: Monday August 21 2006

Vegetarian Film Festival Website Launch

A website for New Zealand’s first Vegetarian Film Festival is launched today to publicise the unique event.

“There has never been a Vegetarian Film Festival in New Zealand before,” said Festival Co-director Aaron Koolen, ‘The www.vegetarianfilmfest.org.nz website provides information about the films, schedules, venues and so on, and answers the question ‘What makes a film festival vegetarian?”

“All the movies selected deal with vegetarian themes in some way” said Mr Koolen, “They range from light (such as quirky indie flick ‘Shooting Vegetarians’) to serious (such as the story of killed live sheep export campaigner Jill Phipps in ‘Jill’s Film’).”

Oscar winner ‘Harvey Krumpet’ (Best animated film 2003) is expected to be a big draw with audiences as it has been seldom shown on the big screen in New Zealand before. ‘We’re expecting a variety of movie goers” said Mr Koolen, ‘from movie buffs to vegetarians to anyone interested in seeing what a vegetarian film festival can offer.”

The vegetarian theme will be continued to the concessions stand where vegan ice cream, pop corn and unique film fest t shirts will be on offer. Lucky festival goers may win spot prizes of vegetarian restaurant vouchers and vegetarian wine.

The film festival will be held in Auckland and Christchurch on October the 8th in celebration of World Vegetarian Day.
