Wednesday 9 August

Prime Minister to Launch the 2006 Otago Festival of the Arts

The Otago Festival of the Arts is delighted that the fourth Festival will be launched by Patron, the Rt Hon Helen Clarke, Prime Minister and Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage this Friday 11 August.

Nicholas McBryde, Festival Director will unveil the programme of music, theatre, dance, visual arts and literature, at an event for, business partners, funders, city officials and artists.

The programme will go live at 6pm on line at www.otagofestival.co.nz. Full colour brochures will be available from Saturday throughout the city and region in restaurants and cafes.

“The programme launch is the beginning of the lively build up to the start of the Festival which takes place from 6 to 14 October,” says Nicholas McBryde, Festival Director. “We encourage everyone to pick up a brochure or go to the website and see what is on offer. This is always an exhilarating stage when Otago people can discuss, plan, book – and get excited about – their nine days and nights of Arts Festival enjoyment!”

Although he says that people will have to wait another few days for the details, McBryde hints the inclusion of a European Jazz ensemble, Pacific beats and rhythms, an evocative Argentinean ballet, award winning contemporary dance-film, sidesplitting comedy and heart wrenching theatre. The Festival is sure to engage and intrigue a wide range of audiences.
