Tribute to Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett

15 July 2006

Tribute to Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett

Next Saturday (22 July) the Australian Pink Floyd Project and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra will pay special tribute to Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett when they team up to bring the timeless anthems of the iconic British super group to life.

Rob Pippan, lead guitarist/vocalist of the Australian Pink Floyd Project said: "The world has lost one of the first early experimental thinkers and musicians with the passing of Syd Barrett. He leaves a legacy that Floyd fans will never forget as his early contributions to the Floyd helped create the band they became. Sid showed that taking risks was a vital part of what makes art valuable and have true longevity. We dedicate our concert to Sid. Shine on you crazy diamond!"

Syd Barrett's great anthem "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" will be showcased during the concert as will other memorable pieces such as "Wish You Were Here", "Comfortably Numb", "The Dogs of War", "Money", "Us and Them" .

The 10-piece Australian Pink Floyd Project comes to New Zealand on the back of three sold-out concerts with the Adelaide Symphony. The Adelaide Sunday Mail review said: "Floyd tribute absolutely rocks. Floyd fans would have thought someone was playing the CD - but it was better than the real thing. The arrangements were superbly realised by this irresistible blend of rock and classical musicianship. Perfect Dark Side of the Moon landing."

The New Zealand concert promises to be just as good, if not better - don't miss it!
