Celebrating all things poetry

Auckland City Libraries invites poets and poetry fans to an evening poetry event and to text in original poems for a live electronic display to celebrate Montana Poetry Day on Friday 21 July.

The New Zealand Electronic Poetry Centre (nzepc) presents Bluffing Auckland ‘O6 which will reprise their poetry symposium Bluff ’06 held earlier this year when 22 poets travelled from all over New Zealand to Bluff and Rakiura for poetry readings, discussions and digital outreach. An online poetry anthology called OBAN ’06 was produced.

Guest poets at this event are Cilla McQueen (an accomplished poet travelling from Bluff noted for giving talented performances of her poetry) and Anne Kennedy (a finalist in the poetry category in the Montana New Zealand Book awards 2006). They will be joined by Bluff ’06 poets Hilary Chung, Murray Edmond, Brian Flaherty, Paula Green, Alison Hunt, Michele Leggott, Bronwyn Lloyd, Selina Tusitala Marsh, Jack Ross, Helen Sword and Lisa Williams.

As part of this celebration of all things poetry, the public is invited to text poems on any subject to Auckland City Libraries. Simply text: “ACL your poem” to 8080 by 4pm Friday 21 July. Poems will be projected onto the Central City Library’s three Big Screens LIVE! Thanks to TxtCentre for their sponsorship.
