Over thirty high-profile New Zealand artists, photographers, jewellery and film makers, comic writers, fashion designers, tattoo artists, illustrators, and even an Oscar-winning special effects artist, are to donate works to benefit animals in New Zealand.

National animal advocacy organisation SAFE is excited to announce this year?s charity art auction, entitled Inspired for Animals, which will be hosted by Melbourne-based comedian Cal Wilson. SAFE?s promotion manager Amanda Sorrenson says proceeds from the event will be put towards SAFEs humane education projects.

We are delighted to auction so many brilliant works including Richard Malloys naively-fashioned rodent sculpture sprouting albino human hair it speaks of the freakishness of xenotransplantation; Peter Jacksons personally autographed on-set King Kong poster; and 2002 Walters prize-winner Yvonne Todds beautiful but eerie photograph of her feline friend, says Ms Sorrenson.

SAFE will also submit an exciting work to go under the auctioneers hammer: a 12 x 3 metre signed billboard skin, featuring Nicky Watson, Charlotte Dawson, Aja Rock and Eva the Bulgarian.

Artworks can be previewed at www.safeart.org.nz from 22 June.

The auction will be held from 7pm, Thursday 13 July at the Hopetoun Alpha located on Beresford Street in central Auckland. Radio and television presenter Camilla will be the evening?s DJ.

SAFE benefits the community. It has been operating in New Zealand for over 70 years and has over 8000 donors and supporters. SAFE provides an important voice for all animals in the community and supports those who are concerned about the wider issues affecting animals.

SAFE is a unique organisation with a vision of compassion and respect for all living beings. SAFE regularly consults with educators, the media, legislators and the general public about the treatment of animals both nationally and internationally.

In Auckland SAFE has over 100 volunteers who work on a regular basis throughout the year and hundreds more during special events. In Auckland over the last 18 months SAFE has participated in the Grey Lynn Festival, the Auckland Pet Show, the Eco Show, and the Visionary Living Show. Nationally SAFE has participated in Kidsfest and appeared frequently on television advocating on a wide range of animal-related issues.
