Twice the Sports Action on Maori Television
Armchair sports fans are about to get a double dose of Maori sports show CODE –Maori Television’s Thursday night sports
show. From this Sunday, July 2, CODE will be repeated at 4.00 PM, the latest move in a successful branding campaign for
the show.
CODE is broadcast live each Thursday from Maori Television’s Auckland studios or from major sports events around the
country. The one-hour interview-based programme includes the latest news, inside stories and behind-the-scenes action
with top sports personalities making headlines at home and abroad.
Hosts include former Silver Fern, Jenny-May Coffin, rugby league legend, Tawera Nikau, former Kiwi captain, Ritchie
Barnett, Wairangi Koopu from the Warriors, sevens representative, Matua Parkinson, former All Black, Glen Osborne and
champion surfer, Lisa Hurunui. Now in its second year of production, CODE has done everything from the jig with the
Irish Rugby Team to the haka with the NZ Maori and All Blacks. This year more than 40 top athletes have been studio
guests and its Mean Maori Mean campaign has upped the ante for CODE’s profile.
The show’s Mean Maori Mean catchphrase was originally coined to reflect the theme of CODE and it has become so popular
with viewers that it is now regularly chanted by crowds at major sporting events.
CODE’s loyal audiences will have even more to chant about when their favourite show is repeated on Sunday afternoons.
This week CODE talks to world champion Sliver Ferns Jodi Te Huna and Anna Scarlett in a special netball feature. Soccer
sensation Rory Fallon also lifts the lid on his illustrious career and his future plans.
Sit back and relax this Sunday with more of the best in Maori sports entertainment on CODE (Thursdays at 8.30 PM and
repeated on Sundays at 4.00 PM).
