Thousands Feel The Noise At Stomp
AUCKLAND, June 19, 2006 - International percussion sensation, STOMP, proved its enduring appeal in Auckland last week with a sell-out season at The Civic, THE EDGE.
The show was bought to Auckland by UK-based promoters Lunchbox Theatrical Promotions with eight shows only in Auckland from June 13 to 18. The season was a complete sell-out, making it one of the hottest tickets in town.
Close to 17,000 people attended the STOMP performances that also garnered rave reviews from critics.
Meanwhile the ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre, THE EDGEwas home to the hugely popular Engelbert Humperdinck's Totally Amazing World Tour. The Saturday night concert was a complete sellout (2,256 seats) meaning an extra show was added on Friday.
And the weekend just got bigger! On Sunday the entire Aotea Centre transformed into kids' central with the Storylines Festival Free Family Day that attracted approximately 20,000 visitors.
"We are having a very successful Winter season," said THE EDGE Chief Executive, Greg Innes. "Next up in The Civic will be the Auckland International Film Festival and Swan Lake On Ice in July before the international hit, Menopause the Musical opens in August. Another highlight will certainly be The Australian Ballet's extraordinary production of The Sleeping Beauty in October."
THE EDGE manages Auckland Town Hall, Aotea Centre, The Civic, Aotea Square and Auckland Convention Centre at THE EDGE. It also runs the STAMP creative development programme as well as numerous Public Programmes and Aotea Square Market.
