Kiwi jazz talent rocks Norfolk

New Zealanders have the chance to watch fellow kiwi's play at the Norfolk Island Jazz in the Pines festival this December! Kiwi jazz favourites The Nairobi Trio and swing band Hot Club Sandwich are set to open the festival on 4 December 2006.

Other artists performing at the festival include Australia's popular John Morrison Quartet, South African jazz great Shannon Mowday, Newcastle trumpeter Bob Henderson, Australian soul diva Evelyn Duprai and Australian world music band, Monsieur Camembert.

The festival promises the chance to watch top jazz acts while relaxing and taking in the beautiful surrounding's of Norfolk Island.

Kiwi jazz talent rocks Norfolk

Kiwi jazz favourites The Nairobi Trio and swing band Hot Club Sandwich form the New Zealand contingent travelling to this year’s Norfolk Island Jazz in the Pines festival in December.

The sub-tropical island’s iconic pines carry the sassy tones of toe-tapping jazz every year and New Zealand artists have long been supporters of and popular performers at the festival.

Set amongst spectacular island scenery, the feel-good week of swing, funk and blues, sees top jazz acts feature in seven shows. They include two dinner concerts and one lunch concert, as well as roving performances along Norfolk’s famous tax-free shopping strip.

The Jazz in the Pines Festival caps Norfolk Island’s sesquicentenary celebrations in 2006, marking 150 years of settlement by the descendants of the Bounty mutineers who migrated to Norfolk from Pitcairn Island in 1856.

The Nairobi Trio and Hot Club Sandwich open the festival on December 4. The trio – which tours as a quartet – also performs in the “all-star” marquee alongside key international guests.

They include Australia’s popular John Morrison Quartet, South African jazz great Shannon Mowday, smooth Newcastle trumpeter Bob Henderson and Australian soul diva Evelyn Duprai. Also performing is renowned Aussie world music band, Monsieur Camembert who has won three ARIA Awards - the highest accolade in the Australian music industry.

Roving street bands – including the Geoff Bull New Orleans Jazz Band – and a Wednesday matinee concert complete the five-day festival programme.

The Travel Centre on Norfolk Island is offering seven day holiday packages out of Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch starting at $1,075 per person.

The holiday package includes return airfares[1] and airfare taxes, seven nights twin share accommodation, seven days car hire and return airport transfers, a half day island tour, a seaside picnic breakfast, meet & greet at the airport, complimentary Mini Golf and complimentary ‘A Walk in the Wild as well as a festival mini pack.
