New Role for Free Skiing

The national body for free skiing, the Free Ski Association of New Zealand (FSANZ) has created a new role in recognition of the continued growth of the sport and high standard of competitive talent emerging from New Zealand.

Fraser Grieve, formerly of KPMG Chartered Accountants, has joined the non-profit organisation as its first chief executive officer, charged with the objective of bringing the sport to a professional level and increasing the funding available to it.

Grieve’s appointment marks the start of a new era in free skiing with the FSANZ looking to provide more financial and training support to key New Zealand athletes on the international competition circuit as well as growing its flagship event, the Free Ski Open NZ, that already attracts top competitors from all over the world.

Grieve believes free skiing has a positive future and is looking forward to the potential the new role brings.

“New Zealand has the athletes with the talent and this has been proven by the results they’ve been getting overseas. They are an untapped resource in New Zealand’s sporting portfolio capable of putting the Kiwi flag at the top of the podium time and time again,” he said. “Now’s the time to put some serious work into making this happen. I hope to take the skills I’ve learned in the corporate environment and apply them to growing the sport by providing athletes with the training infrastructure and financial support they need.”

Grieve is based in ski town of Lake Wanaka effective immediately.
