DOCNZ 2006 attracting hot entries

DOCNZ 2006 attracting hot entries

Top international documentary makers are targeting DOCNZ 2006.

Festival Director Dan Shanan says the quality and variety of films entered so far is so good that two further awards have been added to the international category. As well as Best Feature Documentary, there will also be awards for the best short and best medium documentaries.

“This places DOCNZ squarely within the top level of international competitive film festivals and as the only one of its kind in Australasia,” Shanan says.

The festival is also growing New Zealand talent, with a new Best New Zealand Student award joining the best short, medium and feature categories. Shanan says plenty of interest is also expected in a new screening category for “experimental documentaries”.

Selected experimental documentaries will screen both at the biennial National Documentary Conference (Wellington, September 22-24) and DOCNZ 2006.

Shanan says documentary makers have until May 31 to make submissions to have their documentaries selected to join a line-up sure to attract international interest.
