Film New Zealand takes ‘gold’ at international Locations Tradeshow
The annual AFCI
Locations Tradeshow drew to a close in Santa Monica
California on Sunday 9 April announcing the Marketing Awards
for 2006 where Film New Zealand took 1st place in the
‘national’ film office section in three separate key
categories for its logo, its www.filmnz.com website and the
new edition of The New Zealand Screen Production
Guide.
Film New Zealand’s Projects Manager Susan Ord said from Santa Monica that the top prizes for Film New Zealand “are enormously gratifying given that there was some stunning competition” from the over 180 national, provincial or state based or regional film offices from 30 countries attending the 2006 Tradeshow. The awards are decided on by a panel of entertainment industry marketing experts and the AFCI staff.
Film New Zealand also congratulated two of New Zealand’s regional film offices that scored 3rd place in three other categories – Film Venture Taranaki for its DVD in promotional digital presentation and Film South for direct mail and colour advertising fractional - in the ‘provincial/state/region’ section.
The Association of Film Commissioners International or AFCI is the professional organisation of film offices with over 300 members throughout the globe. Its Locations Tradeshow is now in its 21st year as the industry’s most prestigious international locations showcase. Film New Zealand has been showcasing the country’s varied locations, crew and talent capability and business infrastructure through its attendance since 1998.
The New Zealand stand at this year’s Tradeshow is led by Film New Zealand’s Susan Ord along with three industry representatives:
• Peter Avery is head of regional film office Film Venture Taranaki where he assisted The Last Samurai and is the elected regional representative trustee on the Film New Zealand board. Peter is also an experienced television commercials producer and director;
• Line producer and producer Angela Littlejohn who co-produced Not Only But Always – BBC’s biopic of comic genius Peter Cook – shot here in New Zealand. Angela is also developing local feature projects under Maxim Films with Rachel Gardner; and
• Locations scout and manager Mike Holloway from Red Locations. The company involves Mike and Harry Harrison managing locations for international television commercials, NBC miniseries Hercules and Billy Connolly’s World Tour of New Zealand.
Two other team members representing the New Zealand government agency Investment NZ are Auckland-based Investment Manager Mike Horgan and Catherine Ragan from the LA office.
Film New Zealand adopted its new logo in November 2005 when it launched its new expanded website; both are designed by Chrometoaster New Media Ltd. The 2nd edition of The New Zealand Screen Production Guide was completed in November by Film New Zealand and Adam Simpson’s design company Station Creative with project funding assistance from Investment NZ.
