“Baby Proms” an Auckland institution
“The best part was the man in the front waving his stick to make the music.” [Lilly Merrill, aged 3]
The Auckland Philharmonia’s BABY PROMS concerts have become an institution, eagerly anticipated by parents and pre-schoolers alike.
Baby Proms concerts provide 2-5 year olds with a unique opportunity to experience the thrill of live orchestra. The 50 minute concerts feature short, fun pieces that are a mixture of familiar classical works and children’s songs, and this year a “water” theme runs through the music.
Audience participation, including singing, dancing and conducting, is encouraged during the concerts, and the “walk through the orchestra”, when the audience walks along a path through the sections of the orchestra while the musicians are playing, is always a major highlight.
In this ninth year of Baby Proms (this year sponsored by the New Zealand Community Trust), six concerts will be performed – two in each of the Auckland Town Hall, Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna, and Hawkins Centre in Papakura.
The Auckland Philharmonia is conducted by talented young maestro, Owen Clarke, with popular children’s entertainer Jennifer Moss leading the singing and associated activities. As in previous years, Baby Proms tickets are in great demand – book now and treat your children to an entertaining, very special experience.
