The Mountain Goats return!
"One of the most quietly skilful singer-songwriters of the decade so far" - NME
In early April, John Darnielle and Peter Hughes, aka The Mountain Goats, are excited to revisit Aotearoa for three dates. After spellbinding audiences with their humour, warmth and rich, emotional performances on their September 2005 tour, The Mountain Goats are by popular demand adding a third show to their itinerary, in Christchurch.
These intimate pub shows should not be missed. If you did miss them in September get in quickly, & if you saw them, well you know how great this band are live so you'll be wanting to come again. Their 95bFM hit, ‘Lion’s Teeth’, remained on the Top Ten for many weeks after their compelling Auckland show.
Mountain Goats main-man, John Darnielle is one of the most imaginative and heralded lyricists of his generation. Since his first record - more than a decade ago – Darnielle has spun tales populated with skewed characters and vibrant images to create stark, haunting narratives. His last two albums, ‘We Shall All Be Healed ‘& ‘The Sunset Tree’, have built him a large & loyal following in New Zealand.
About ‘The Sunset Tree’, critics have written:
"Darnielle is a lyrical genius" – Mojo
"It's a near masterpiece." - Dominion Post - Tom Cardy ***** 5 stars
NZ Herald - Graham Reid **** 4.5 stars
