It’s back to school for the
Boost
Mobile NZ Schools Tour 2006
This year alt rock band Falter take the stage at secondary schools around the country for the Boost Mobile NZ Schools Tour 2006. Hailing from Christchurch, Falter is one of the most exciting bands to emerge from Aotearoa.
Since taking out first place at the Smokefree Rockquest in 2003, Falter has released two singles and music videos with their second single “Fear of Heights” being included on the NZ Indie hit disc.
The Boost Mobile NZ Schools tour debuted in 2002, taking Steriogram on the road. They were followed by Nu-rock band, Wash in 2003, pop-punk band Goodnight Nurse in 2004 and My Life Story in 2005.
The NZ Schools Tour encourages the development of emerging talent within the music scene by offering school students practical music workshops and lunchtime performances by the touring band, in this case Falter.
“The tour is a travelling incubator,” says tour manager Matt Ealand. “It gives young New Zealanders the opportunity to experience New Zealand music at its highest level, while at the same time helping the touring band with its professional development.”
As a testament to the success of the tour, two former bands have recently experienced top ten chart success. My Life Story’s “Fairytale Life” debuted at number 6 on the NZ singles chart and Goodnight Nurse’s album “Always and Never” was number 5 on the NZ album chart.
The Boost Mobile NZ Schools Tour is a real endurance test for the band; travelling around the country for 17 weeks, visiting 85 schools and performing to over 40,000 students.
“We are really excited about supporting the Boost Mobile NZ Schools Tour for the third year running. The tour provides a great platform for emerging talent to develop their music. The current international success of Steriogram is a great tribute to this programme and shows how support at grass roots level can result in amazing things,” says Telecom Mobile Consumer Marketing Manager, Raelene Castle.
The NZ Schools Tour kicks off in Invercargill on May 1st, 2006. See over for tour schedule. For further information visit www.boostmobile.co.nz
