Weekend Festivities Begin Tomorrow!
Iconic Devonport Food and Wine Festival is about to grace Windsor Reserve, Devonport once more and it all begins
tomorrow! This weekend, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 February, over 30 food and wine stalls are offering their products to
eager Festival-goers. As well as enjoying great food and wine from all over New Zealand two stages with continuous
entertainment will ensure there is something for everyone as they enjoy some bubby with oysters or Spanish Paella with
their favourite Sauvignon Blanc.
Kathy Cunningham, Festival Management Director, says “we are really excited about getting the Festival underway tomorrow
as we have a fantastic line up of entertainment, food and wine ready to treat all Festival-goers.”
A new feature of the Festival in 2006, thanks to one of the main beneficiaries of the event this year Michael King
Writers’ Centre, is 16 of some of New Zealand’s most respected poets, novelists, actors and celebrities will be
presenting readings to Festival-goers on the Rotunda stage, during the Festival. Readers include Jennifer Ward Leyland;
Michael Hurst; John Campbell and Carol Hirschfeld. A feature of the Festival not to be missed!
All proceeds from the Devonport Food and Wine Festival go to charity and community organizations. In 2006 the main
beneficiaries are The First Tee and The Michael King Writers’ Centre.
Festival goers are encouraged to leave early for the Festival and park in Downtown Auckland catching a Fullers Ferry
that comes every half hour to Devonport. Another option is to park free in the Bruce Mason Centre, Takapuna and catch a
Ritchie’s bus every 15minutes.
Gates open at 11am both Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $25 and are available from the gate. For more information and a
