Public Enemy coming to NZ
Public Enemy, the most controversial & influential group
in hip-hop history is coming to New Zealand.
Seminal hip-hop group, Public Enemy pioneered a variation of hardcore hip-hop that was musically and politically revolutionary.
With albums from It takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back and Fear of a Black Planet, Public Enemy rewrote the rules of hip-hop, becoming the definitive rap group of all time selling millions of records along the way.
With power and authority, lead rapper Chuck D rhymed about a variety of social issues, particularly those plaguing the black community, often condoning revolutionary tactics and social activism. In the process, Public Enemy directed hip-hop toward an explicitly self-aware, pro-black consciousness that became the culture's signature.
Having just released their first studio album in more than two years, New Whirl Odor, original members of Public Enemy - Chuck D, Professor Griff, Terminator X and Flavor Flav have reunited for the album on Chuck’s new label Slam Jamz. New Whirl Odor brings more of the same energy and authenticity to their tenth studio album that has made their legend grow throughout the rap world.
Public Enemy will be supported by the outstanding New Zealand band, Kora. Kora are creating a stir on the live scene with their organic beats and inspired combination of funk, dub and reggae beats accompanied by rich vocal harmonies.
Public Enemy and Kora’s high-energy live performances will be at Auckland’s St James on 6 April 2006.
Tickets are available from Ticket Direct and Real Groovy.
