Five
Philosophers on the Piss- It’s Not How We’re
Drinking,
It’s What We’re Saying!
Provoked by Plato’s
ancient, timeless dialogue Theatre Militia have devised a
dirty, decadent dedication to some of the great egos of the
modern era. Running for only four nights from the 12th to
the 15th at BATS theatre, this play is the first Fringe
festival show by one of Wellington’s most outspoken
experimental theatre companies. This homage to love sees
Theatre Militia return to BATS after their sell out season
of Bouncing With Billie last year, ‘Theatre Militia have
come of age with this production’ (National Business
Review). This show will be the only production by Theatre
Militia in 2006 and promises to be the sauciest Valentine’s
event
this year.
Defying time, space and sense a surreal dinner party takes form at the home of Gertrude Stein. Through party games and eulogy, some of the world’s great thinkers reveal themselves, their loves and their desires. Combining performance modes and methods from the ancient to the absurd this company has devised a show that explores the boundaries of sex, love and art. With song, dance and Dionysian revelry, six performers and a musician create a vibrant dreamscape that is wild, filthy and lovingly irreverent.
Director Rachel Lenart
(Bouncing with Billie) is joined by Felix Preval (Bouncing
With Billie), Hannah Clarke (Edensong), Richard Dey
(Othello), Bex Joyce (After Kafka), Michael Ness (Albert
Speer) and Kathryn Tyree (Bouncing with Billie) in this
company’s strongest ensemble to date.
To add spice to this Valentine’s Day, Theatre Militia and Matterhorn are holding raffle to win the perfect Valentine night out, two tickets to Theatre Militia’s Symposium followed by desserts and bubbly at the Matterhorn on Wednesday the 14th of February, tickets on sale from the 1st of February at BATS. Keep an eye out for Freud and Socrates on the streets of Wellington with a raffle book.
Theatre Militia’s Symposium promises to be a highlight of the 2006 Fringe Festival. From the filthy to the frigid, the thinkers to the fighters, this play will appeal to all sorts of deviants. Devised by Theatre Militia, this hilarious experimental production will push the passion buttons and entice the lover in all of us.
