Frontseat, this Sunday 12th February, 10.25pm on TV One
After a summer of producing 3D Radio, puttin’ on plays, catchin’ fish, chasin’ Fishers, makin’ movies and occasionally just being beside the seaside, Frontseat is back and raring to go. Be sure to visit our website regularly for our “Festival Forum”, giveaway details and story updates.
On this Sunday’s show...
NZ ART VS LORD OF THE RINGS – Te Papa staff members are reportedly dismayed that a long-awaited exhibition of local art has been hurriedly postponed to make way for a re-run of the popular Lord of the Rings exhibition. Thankfully billionaire Julian Robertson’s private collection will help to fill a wee gap. Josie McNaught asks why Te Papa is so flexible when it comes to rich men’s art, and the museum’s head of visual arts is, once again, disarmingly honest. www.tepapa.govt.nz
AMAZE ME – The Amazing Human Body exhibition in Sydney has been decried by museum folk here as a freak show. Julie Hill heads behind the hype to talk to medical, religious and artistic folk about its many claims to fame, visiting Otago Medical School’s Anatomy Museum and photographer Neil Pardington along the way.
CULTURE VS COMMERCE – Arts and cultural commentator Denis Dutton pays a visit to the Frontseat studio after a morning walk around Te Papa with host Oliver Driver. www.aldaily.com
ZIRKUS GOES BIZIRKUS – Composer Rosie Langabeer, daughter of legendary saxophonist Jim Langabeer, has assembled a 14-piece orchestra for her Fringe Festival show “Zirkus Goes Bizurkis”, a big band that’s gone to the dogs. www.fringe.org.nz
SIX-STRING SALUTE – Where there’s a political issue, there’s a man with his guitar. This week it’s Tim Finn at the North Shore City Council meeting about the future of Devonport’s historic Victoria Theatre. He gives Frontseat a private performance of the song he wrote for the Vic. www.thevic.co.nz
Plus! Watch for how to win tickets to the NZ Festival-NZSO opera “Parsifal”. You know you want to. www.nzfestival.co.nz
