'No 2' brings full house to Openair Cinema at the Viaduct

Auckland, 5 February 2006

The Openair Cinema at the Viaduct Harbour celebrated its opening night on Saturday with a full house for Toa Frasers brilliant Film ‘No 2’. The young director just received the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival and was thrilled by the reception the audience gave to his film and the three-minute standing ovation at the end. He visited the Openair Cinema last season to see ‘Cinema Paradiso’ and said, that the Viaduct Harbour was more than appropriate place for the first public screening in New Zealand.

Prime Minister Helen Clark, who was with her partner among the 1200 strong crowd, was pointing out the long list of Kiwi films produced lately and especially mentioned the importance of the integration of Kiwis from pacific island heritage.

The temporary movie theatre will operate on Te Wero Island from 4 to 26 February 2006. The programme consists of 22 different movies – a real festival of cinematic work around the world – including the New Zealand premiere of the newest Snowboard Documentary ‘First Descent’ on Friday, 24 February.
