Radio Active One Love promises funkin’ good time

The annual Radio Active One Love Concert returns to the Hataitai Velodrome on Waitangi Day (Monday 6 February).

Starting at noon, Radio Active One Love is a celebration of Bob Marley’s birthday, Waitangi Day and cultural unity through music. Headlining this year’s event is popular Wellington–based band The Black Seeds with their unique blend of funk, reggae, soul and dub. The Cornerstone Roots, Sounds Almighty featuring The Mighty Asterix and newcomers Pacific Bass Culture round out the line-up.

The concert attracts a diverse crowd of thousands and Wellington City Council Events Co-ordinator Melody Scales says this year will be no different. “People should arrive early to enjoy the festive atmosphere. There will be market stalls, children’s activities, a chill-out tent and lots of room for dancing and grooving.

“One Love gets more popular each year. It’s easy to see why – it’s a great all-inclusive event for anyone who enjoys being in a relaxing environment and listening to good music with a peaceful message.”

Parking at the Velodrome is limited and the main carpark will be closed to traffic. The Council is encouraging people to use public transport or walk. There is a licensed bar on-site. People are asked not to bring glass or dogs to the venue.

There may be delays along Ruahine Street and Wellington Road. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time to the airport or to reach the eastern suburbs.
