Boyle’s Audition
A Musical Comedy
If you are searching for a guaranteed Fringe experience, something to make you laugh think and potentially cry, then do not go past Lance A. Boyle’s Audition.
The premise is simple but the execution is audacious:
Notorious Book Bolter Lance A. Boyle (DC Boyle) is auditioning for testosterone fuelled, take no prisoners rock band. The trouble is the only takers are an increasingly bizarre array of women who proceed to shake Lance’s outmoded assumption that Rock n Roll is just for the boys.
What follows is a truly bizarre audition. Lance is joined by Eva Collins from local rockers No San Pedro, their songs are then punctuated by limericks from ‘lie down comedian Susan Freeman, Te Reo from 11 year old Haukura Jones, silly walks and free form opera from Janet Mcallister all the way from Kahutara in the Wairarapa and a melodramatic cameo from touring thespian Sara Velásquez.
DC Boyle has been a regular on the Word Collective scene for two years, performing in all three Word Festivals and his runaway success show Lance A Boyle at Thistle Hall in last years Fringe.
But perhaps David Boyle is best known for his bolted books. These are old books creatively locked shut – tennis coaching manuals snapped closed with a racquet holder, books on drug rehab stabbed with syringes: remnants of thoughts past that he has single-handedly decided to censor, in the most creative way possible. Lance A. Boyle’s Audition has a live insight into this unique artistic technique, until now only seen as a finished product on the walls of many Wellington Café’s, including the Paramount.
Music, madness, limericks, silly walks- Guaranteed crazy fun, a musical comedy you will never forget.
