Auckland Big Day Out Post Event Summary

The BIG DAY OUT tour landed in Auckland today for the first event of the 2006 6-stop Australasian series. The Auckland event played to a crowd of 35,000 music fans at Ericsson Stadium.

Following a joint briefing session held directly after the Auckland Big Day Out event, this information has been compiled in conjunction with representatives of the following organisations.

Auckland Central Police

To the best of our collective knowledge this summary is an accurate and up to date representation of the day’s incidents.

*St John Ambulance Service spokesperson Adam Johnston reports that treatment numbers were approximately 720 which is significantly less than the previous event. All of these treatments were minor including headaches, cuts and abrasions, sunburn and blisters.

* 3 patrons were transported to hospital with the following injuries – dislocated elbow, dislocated knee and an ankle injury.

*Auckland Central Police report there were just 13 arrests, significantly down on previous events. Inspector Derek Davidson said, “The police were extremely happy with the crowd behaviour and the audience should be complimented for this.”

Event organisers would like to praise the audience for their amazing co-operation of the ongoing BDO safety initiatives and their consideration of fellow patrons.
