Hollywood glamour is coming to New Zealand with the confirmation that Academy Award© winning actress Charlize Theron will be in Auckland with New Zealand director Niki Caro to attend the New Zealand Premiere of Caro’s new film North Country.

Theron will attend the Premiere at Village Sky City Cinemas Queen Street on January 27, and accompany acclaimed Whale Rider director Niki Caro down the red carpet at a star studded event.

Inspired by a true story, North Country stars Theron as Josey Aimes, a single mother and miner who brings the first class action law suit for sexual harassment in the United States.
The film premiered in the United States in October and will release in New Zealand on
February 2.

Lisa Hubbard, General Manager of Roadshow Film Distributors is delighted that the Kiwi connection has enabled one of Hollywood’s top stars to come to New Zealand. “As New Zealanders we are proud of what Niki has achieved and her immense talent has enabled her to work with one of Hollywood’s leading actresses. We are also thrilled that she has enticed Charlize down under to experience our Kiwi hospitality.”

South African Theron won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster. She has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award (Best Actress) and also by the Screen Actors Guild for her performance in North Country.

North Country stars a pedigree of Academy Award© winners including Frances McDormand and Sissy Spaceck. McDormand has also been nominated along with Theron for the upcoming Golden Globes and Screen Actors Awards.

North Country is Caro’s first feature film since Whale Rider and she is currently promoting the film in Europe, before joining Theron in Australia and then New Zealand.

North Country’s New Zealand premiere is on January 27, at Village SkyCity Cinemas Queen Street and the red carpet will open from 6.00pm for the public to watch and enjoy the Hollywood glamour along with Theron and Caro and a host of New Zealand celebrities in Aotea Square.

Both Theron and Caro will be conducting interviews on North Country in Auckland as well as attending the New Zealand North Country premiere.
