Amplifier Newsletter 201 - 11 January 2006

Amplifier Newsletter 201 - 11 January 2006

Kia ora , So we’re starting 2006 with Fat Freddy’s Drop’s Based on a True Story at the top of the national album chart and Breaks Co-Op’s The Other Side as the highest played song on radio for 2005. What a year it was. While it would be fun to get into some crystal ball gazing I think it would be accurate to predict that 2006 will be the year when the sound of Aotearoa gets “discovered” by the rest of the world.

The new government funded Outward Sound programme will be a driving force behind this. Outward Sound has been set up to provide assistance for market development initiatives to encourage the entry of New Zealand music and musicians into global markets. Also the overseas touring of acts such as The Black Seeds, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Salmonella Dub and The Datsuns will have a flow on effect and hopefully make foreign audiences more instantly receptive of kiwi musicians and music. So if you’re reading this somewhere outside of New Zealand, then go tell your friends that the kiwis ar! e coming.

There are some great new releases for you to check out below and remember there are only 9 more sleeps until the Big Day Out.

Ka kite ano.
