The internationally-acclaimed Lippizaner horses, together with a cavalcade of the best of the Baroque stallions come to New Zealand in February in one of the largest events of its kind.
After a successful sold out tour of Australia, Rene Gasser and Equestrian Entertainment present Gala of the Royal Horses for a limited season in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Starring the world famous Lippizaners, Gala of the Royal Horses creates a stunning tribute to the animal that has carried man through history, fuelled his greatest ambitions and met his most noteworthy achievements.
Accompanying the Lippizaners are magnificent Andalusians, Friesians and Arabians performing dramatic, historical and classical routines at liberty, in unison, under saddle, above the ground and above all, in complete harmony with their humans. As expected at any great equestrian production, Gala of the Royal Horses includes the ‘Haute Ecole’ movements as well as ‘Airs Above the Ground’, both of which are rarely seen outside of Europe. Witness the power and grace of the piaffe in the pillars, the levade, the courbette and the breathtaking beauty of the capriole.
The performance focuses highly on production with specially designed lighting that highlights the horse's beauty and grace whilst complimenting its natural elegance. The accompanying sound track sets the scene, while the splendid costumes apply the finishing touches to this stunning visual feast.
The show is the brainchild of Rene Gasser. “The horses are the show,” says Rene, “and their performances are simply breathtaking.” A native of Switzerland, it has taken him eight years to locate, select and train his band of Baroque stallions and present this stunning show of classical horsemanship.
Gala of the Royal Horses is at North Shore Events Centre, Auckland on Saturday 4 February 2pm and 8pm; Wellington’s Events Centre on Thursday 9 and Friday 10 February at 8pm and The Westpac Centre, Christchurch on Saturday 18 February at 2pm and 8pm. Book at Ticketek.
