The Brunettes (Lil’ Chief) have signed a record deal with Sub Pop Records. Jonathan Bree and Heather Mansfield are recording their new album in New York and will return to this hemisphere for The Big Day Out and an Australian tour. The shows in Australia are in support of the release of their albums over there through Reverberation Records.

Sugarlicks now has 4 vinyl 12"s in stores worldwide; the latest is Jah'licious’ Delayed Behaviour EP and the 'Styles Upon Styles' 12" (which features Fat Freddy's Drop). The vinyl is mastered by Scape in Berlin.

Sugarlicks also looked after the composition of music for a number of shows during New Zealand Fashion Week, and Sugarlicks director Yazz produced no less than 11 shows for the week including shows for Workshop, Insidious Fix and Helen Cherry. Sugarlicks will supply music for an exclusive event at Hong Kong Fashion Week next month where 9 top NZ designers will be featured.

Minuit’s Except You was selected over submissions from artists all over New Zealand and Australia for the South Pacific spot on Universal’s 'Future Sound Of.'. This album showcases tracks selected from the leading cities in downbeat, breaks and electro from around the world and also features the likes of Bjork and DJ Krush. The album will sell into over 30 territories. Minuit are currently finishing their sophomore album, 'The Guards Themselves', which will be released via Tardus Music in February '06.

one million dollars (Sugarlicks) have had their track Who You Are included on the compilation ‘A Lounge Supreme Volume 4’ released by Clubstar records, Germany. Other artists on the compilation include Ernest Ranglin and Nitin Sawhney.

Die!Die!Die! (Capitalrecordings) have signed a licensing deal with new Australian label, OK! Relax, who will release Die!Die!Die!'s album on January 22nd next year. The band have just arrived back in New Zealand after touring with Wolf And Cub and they'll be returning to Australia shortly for a second time to the sold-out Homebake Festival on December 3.

The Twitch will represent New Zealand in the 2005 World Battle of the Bands World Final in Hong Kong on 26 November. Highlights from the 2005 World Battle of the Bands will be compiled on a DVD, which will be released as a bonus disc internationally on all WBOB winning bands’ releases. Last year’s WBOTB winners Chuganaut have just released their EP ‘Wolf’ via Intergalactic, and USA finalists from last year, Jaggedy Ann, will be recording in New Zealand.

Savage (DawnRaid) debuted at #9 on the Australian singles chart with Moonshine (feat. Akon). UK breaks label Resin Records has added Baitercell and Schumacher (Kog) to their roster. They will be releasing The Bass is Injected 12" (featuring Tuff Enchant).

Round Trip Mars's International Observer album 'All Played Out' has been copping big props all over the shop including a rave review in Wire magazine from legendary English DJ and writer Steve Barker who boldly claims it 'outperforms many top drawer UK roots acts'. Expect further excess outperformance as a newly vocalised refix of 'Cellphone Dub' featuring Roots Manuva's co-pilot Ricky Ranking is about be unleashed on discerning radio nationwide.

Red Rocks Records have just released two new CDs: Darren Watson’s ‘South Pacific Soul’, (featuring members of Trinity Roots, Twinset, Southside of Bombay and the Windy City Strugglers); and the alt-country debut from The Shot Band. The Windy City Strugglers have returned from Europe; highlights included support slots for Eric Bibb and Guy Davis, plus industry showcases in Paris and London.

On Friday November 25th Gahu (Dougal Records) will release their new album ‘Shell Money’ at the London Bar. Highlights of the performance will include the energetic dancing of Mr Y.B. from Ghana, and an array of African drums.

Due to the expiry of their distribution agreement with FMR, Arch Hill will be distributed now by Rhythmethod. The first release under this deal is the Grand Prix album, which has just come out.

Mo’Reece and Chong Nee have new videos: Lonely For You (Kahu) and Scenarios (Kog) respectively. In keeping with the tradition to date of drawing their design inspiration from Bob Marley’s ‘Catch A Fire’ album cover, Mai Music are releasing a Katchafire double pack: a limited run of both Katchafire CDs, ‘Revival’ and ‘Slow-Burning’.

The second Rubicon album ‘The Way It Was Meant to Be’ is out on Wildside the first week of December. The album was recorded in Los Angeles with drummer Paul Reid also playing guitar and doing vocals, with a new American band member on bass. Surrealistic (LHP) are recording album number 2 at Earwig studios.

SJD (Round Trip Mars) and the Phoenix Foundation are playing a 4-show theatre tour of the main centres. Cold By Winter (1157) have a series of shows leading up to Christmas; the final CBW shows for some months as they head to Europe in January. New Way Home (Global Routes) will also be out and about throughout New Zealand in the next 4 weeks.
