Book showcases skills of Women's Literacy Group

New book showcases skills of Women's Literacy Group

The Dunedin Women's Literacy Group are celebrating a successful year with the launch of their first book at Literacy Aotearoa (Dunedin) on Tuesday 22 November 2005 from 10am–1pm at the Carnegie Centre, 110 Moray Place, Dunedin.

The book is filled with stories, poems, recipes and a cover design contributed by the 15 students in the group.

Literacy Aotearoa (Dunedin) Chair Kim Currie says the book is a new project for the group.

"The idea was discussed earlier in the year, and it is wonderful to see the book come together."

The launch will be a celebratory occasion with a special lunch, a presentation of certificates, and a copy of the book presented to each of the students in the group.

The Women's Literacy Group meets once a week, learning a wide range of skills including grammar, writing, and reading.

All aspects of the book from design to proof-reading have been undertaken by the group.

The Women's Literacy Group started in 2003, and is supported by the Tertiary Education Commission.
