Audiences And Critics Publicly Applaud New Zealand’s Fastest Growing Theatre Company

Silo Theatre ends their most ambitious annual programme to date, with support and recognition from audiences and critics, extending their Auckland season of THE WOMEN and receiving nominations for four Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards.

Silo Theatre expanded its programme in 2005 by touring two productions to Wellington, a move which the experienced theatre veteran advises against, unless you are blessed by the cash jackpot of sure-hits like Chicago and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Silo Theatre Director, Shane Bosher was highly aware of the risks involved in expanding the size of the programme, relying heavily on increased audience attendance in both their established boutique home-market and for the first time in Wellington, without the comforts of an established track record or loyal customer base. His confidence paid off. THE WOMEN sold out at Downstage, followed by a return Auckland season at The Concert Chamber, which played to capacity, and has this week released five extra performances.

In addition, this Auckland based company has also just received four nominations for the prestigious Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards. Dubbed as the ‘Oscars’ of Wellington theatre, these awards celebrate the unique talents of theatre in the capital city. To receive four nominations in the first year of entering this established market is a major achievement.

Nominations have been received in the following categories:

Sovereign Award for the Most Promising New Director of the Year, Katie Wolfe (THE WOMEN)

Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School Award for Director of the Year, Katie Wolfe (THE WOMEN)

Actress of the year, Mia Blake (BASH)

Chapman Tripp Award for Production of the Year, Silo Theatre (THE WOMEN)

Silo Theatre announces it’s 2006 programme this January, which includes a tour of the highly acclaimed 2005 Auckland production of THE BOYS IN THE BAND, to Downstage Theatre, Wellington.
