NHNZ’s Evenkia Attracts Wide Broadcaster Interest

Global broadcasters are showing a strong interest in the NHNZ proposal for a Hi-Def film on one of the most endangered cultures in the world - the Evenk reindeer nomads of Siberia.

NHNZ Director of Production Neil Harraway and Hungarian producer Zoltan Torok took the proposal to MIPCOM TV market and have had keen interest from broadcasters in France, Germany, UK, Japan and the US. They are now in follow-up discussions on partnerships for the film.

In the US, the story is being pitched as a feature doc, because of the film's spectacular dramatic and emotional appeal. One story follows an Evenk family as the grandfather imparts his knowledge and love of nature to his young granddaughter on their last seasonal migration before she has to leave her family and stay at a little boarding school in a little village.

The other main line follows a wolf family as they raise their cubs. The wolf pack shadows the huge wild migrating reindeer herd, and the domestic herd belonging to the Evenk family. In a vast and wild land people and wolves are both trying to make their living.

NHNZ is one of the world’s leading producers of factual programming embracing the genres of nature, health, science, adventure, and people. With over 70 programmes currently in production, its crews work in locations around the world to produce a diversity of films for international broadcasters including

Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, Discovery Health, National Geographic Channel, France 5, Canal +, NHK, ZDF, WDR and NDR. Based in Dunedin, New Zealand, the company is wholly owned by Fox Television Studios.
